Rose of Sharon 'Diana' (pure white)
Hibiscus syriacus 'Diana'
1 gallon pot
Also known as Althea, this deciduous hardy hibiscus produces abundant pure white showy blooms in the summer and fall that reach 3" in diameter.
This flowering shrub only requires regular watering and feeding when it's young. As it matures, it becomes a low maintenance option that is drought and heat-tolerant, easily adaptable to poor soil and urban conditions, and can live up to 20 to 30 years.
Rose of Sharon has a natural upright vase shape with multiple branches and medium to dark green foliage. However, it is possible to prune this shrub to a single trunk to produce a tree form. Rose of Sharon can be planted in the spring or fall, and it has a moderate growth rate of 12" to 24" per year until it reaches its mature height of 8' to 12'.
As it grows and seeds, it can become invasive in some areas, but can be managed by removing the seed pods by the end of November.
